Member Cathy Gilmore presented a family quilt that she finished for her nephew-in-law, an only child who lost his mother, Nell, at a young age.
Nell was an elementary teacher and an avid cross-stitcher. Prior to her death she began a quilt as you go pattern that used cross-stitched blocks.
While Cathy’s heart longed to complete this project, she was wary of what would be the state of the unfinished quilt and the size of the task to complete it. Surprisingly the quilt was complete except for the last row of 4 blocks. The last 4 completed cross-stitched blocks and the remaining fabric for row 4 was all in the box with the partially completed quilt.
As a labor of love, Cathy finished the last row matching the quilting method used by Nell to the best of her ability. It was noted that Nell had the original pattern and her notes when each block was stitched, making following the process started easier.
This 45-year-old UFO is now complete and in the hands of her son. (Note: Cathy’s work on this was just beautiful, we would never have known she had added the last row without her telling us!)
